The Sith

Peace is a lie; there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

"It may be possible that this Vader is manipulating the Emperor," Cerena agreed, "but the Emperor is the one who gave the order to destroy the Jedi. This Vader is not at his side all the time. That means that the Emperor cannot simply be an innocent victim of the Sith's machinations - unless the Sith is capable of controlling him from across the galaxy.

"It's also impossible for us to know when the Emperor fell under the Sith's influence. It's possible he already harboured ambitions to take over the Republic, and the Sith merely took advantage of that fact - hitched their carriage to his pack animal, so to speak."

"If what we've been discussing is true, then there's no way that the Republic can be restored without the Jedi. Only a Jedi would be able to destroy Darth Vader. And, conversely, there's no way that the Jedi Order could be formally restored without there being an end to the Empire first..."

Cerena is convinced that Vader is a Sith, not an ex-Jedi.

"The Sith will not win the civil war for the Empire, no matter how many of them there might be. The success of the Rebellion's cause depends on the individuals who make up its ranks. The Sith-Jedi conflict is intertwined with the Empire's conflict with the Rebellion on a deeper level.

"Depose the Emperor, and Vader remains to continue his plotting. Destroy Vader, and the Emperor will still be in power. For the galaxy to be truly free again, both goals must be accomplished. Everyone is needed – Rebel and Jedi alike."
